Fishing themed breaks and community fishing available at holiday park venue

A new fishing lake for carp anglers has been developed to augment the two existing fishing lakes already available to those who visit Stonham Barns Park – one of Suffolk’s premier leisure, retail and holiday venues.

The existing lakes are set in a tree lined corner of Stonham Barns park away from the rush of everyday life.  Fishing legend Bob Nudd has not only visited the lakes to fish but he also is an ambassador for Stonham Barns Park fishing encouraging people of all ages to pick up a fishing rod and find out more about the sport. The Stonham Barns Park lakes are well stocked with a mixture of carp, tench and bream weighing up to 25lbs. All lakes at the park have been man-made and are now mature with beautiful surroundings.  Each are a haven for wildlife attracting birds, waterfowl and small animals.

The new specialist carp fishing lake – amply stocked with 75 specimen fish – features five fully furnished fishing lodges available for anglers to hire for overnight fishing trips.

Stonham Barns Fishing Lodges have their own decking for direct fishing on the lake.  They have been designed for families, friends or anglers who are fishing solo. The swims are spaced out so that each angler has plenty of separation and space to make the most of each fishing session.

The lake has three small islands and a depth of 13ft with a marginal shelf around the lake that is lined with lily pads and willow trees.  The shelf drops into deeper water a few rods lengths out to a clear and presentable lakebed.

Says Ryan Inskip of Stonham Barns Park Carp Lake, ‘All carp anglers are welcome – from beginners to experts – and we will also be looking to stage some competitions at the new lake once we have completed the construction of all the swims.’

‘We know that carp anglers are dedicated to their sport and we feel that this new lake will offer up a new challenge to those who would like to try out the fishing for the first time.  The lake is set in beautiful Suffolk countryside.  It’s all there for all who want to test their skill on a new lake or try carp fishing for the first time.  We look forward to meeting those who want to be among the first to get involved.’

World class angler Bob Nudd MBE commented on one of his recent visits to the venue, ‘I am delighted to be an ambassador for fishing here at Stonham Barns Park.  It is a venue that’s fast-developing particularly with regards to fishing.  With such challenging times globally that affect us all every day, it has never been more important to look after our wellbeing whether that is for a day or a break to the countryside.  Nature helps restore our balance and fishing can be one of the best boosts to your mental health and outlook.’

Each lodge at Stonham Barns Park Carp Lake is available for up to 4 people and contains a double bed, a bunk bed, a sofa, a nest of tables and a television.  All lodges have heating and full electric with decking outside and a bench and table set.  Food is available at the venue from Café 24, Legends Bar and from The Village Stores.  A shower block is also available at the venue’s campsite.

Bookings are £100 per night (Friday night bookings are a minimum of 2 nights).  Check in will be at midday and checkout at 10.00am on the next day.  Multiple nights can be booked with 10.00am departure on the final day of stay.

Car parking is available and there are toilet facilities alongside a small selection of tackle and bait at the venue.

Bob Nudd was first angler to win four individual World Freshwater Angling Championships: 1990 (Yugoslavia),1991 (Hungary),1994 (England) and 1999 (Spain).

He continues to fish competitions throughout the season on the European circuit.

It is estimated that around 2.9 million people regularly fish British lakes, rivers and coastal waters.

Programmes like Monster Carp, Mortimer & Whitehouse and Extreme Fishing with Robson Green are keeping fishing mainstream and with its wellness benefits is still a top relaxation choice for people of all ages and social demographics.
