Character and cartoon collector turns to retail as more people move into collectables

Glen Wade – of Great Blakenham – in Suffolk has turned a dream into a reality by setting up his own collectables shop – Glen’s Collectables – after years of attending ComicCon events selling selected superhero figurines and anime characters.

Glen chose the retail, leisure and holiday venue Stonham Barns Park for the venture after visiting to see how the rural shopping village works.  He will be selling a huge range of superhero and anime figurines, night lamps, Star Wars characters and dinosaurs plus many more merchandising items.  Formerly a carpenter, Glen – who is 55 – decided the time was right to do something that has always captured his imagination and been a lifelong passion.

‘I just love everything about the world of films and fiction, particularly action and fantasy.   It’s escapism and after many years of working as a carpenter I felt that it was time for a change!’

‘Collecting is becoming a bigger part of our everyday lives, and everyone seems to have a different interest.  Mine has always revolved around action, costume play and animation. It’s a place where you can switch off from work and escape while enjoying swapping stories with like-minded collectors.’

‘The Far East and USA is where it all started and as with all things, the craze has worked its way into the hearts of people from all over the UK.  I’m very excited to see how many people in Suffolk will share my enthusiasm and energy for the superhero and animation genre.’

The new store opens on Saturday 14 June with Harley Quinn and Deadpool characters helping to entertain customers shopping at the outlet on Sunday 15 June.

Continues Glen, ‘I’ve enjoyed my career in carpentry but I’m doing this for the love of the sector.  I’m putting everything into the venture and already love the vibe at the retail village.  Everyone is so friendly at Stonham Barns Park.’

‘These are exciting times for me. I’m hoping it’s the start of something big!’
