Hand-made, novelty teapot pottery creates tribute to Lewis Carroll’s influential novel … Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
The artisan teapot pottery Carters of Suffolk – based at Stonham Barns Park – has announced the introduction of a new summer party theme for its teapot tearooms – The Pottery Tea & Cake Shop.
The Teapot Tearooms will be running literary-inspired Alice in Wonderland Tea Parties and Afternoon Teas at its Stonham Barns Park pottery featuring costumed characters, props, furnishings, murals – by illustrator Tracey Chapman – and of course themed sandwiches, cakes and savouries.
The Alice in Wonderland Tea Parties will be staged at a specially designed table which can be booked for groups of 2-10 adults and children celebrating special events. The menu includes a variety of delicious sandwiches, Madhatter Bread and Butterly Ham, Queen of Hearts Strawberry Jam, Fishy Footman Tuna, Cheeky Mouse Cheese, Queen of Hearts Strawberry Tarts, Mad Mushrooms, Bird in the Tree Iced Gems, Froggy Chocs and White Rabbit Fondant Fancies.
Afternoon Teas – which must be prebooked – include similarly Alice in Wonderland-themed savoury and sweet treats. The cost for the teas is £21.50 for adults and £12.50 for children. These are ideal for both children and adult birthday parties.
The story of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – from 1865 – follows a young girl who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by strange creatures. The novel is a celebrated example of a series of bizarre events centred around The White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat, The Mad Hatter and The Queen of Hearts.
The teapot pottery tearooms launch will feature The Mad Hatter, The White Rabbit and – of course – Alice in Wonderland!
Comments Val Baldry of The Pottery Tea & Cake Shop, ‘This has been such a fun idea to deliver from the research to the painting of the murals and the selection of props and the Alice in Wonderland menu.’
‘We could not have had more fun and now we just need some customers who will be prepared to join in the party atmosphere to sample some of the fine foods which are calling out to be consumed – in an ‘eat me!’ and ‘drink me!’ type way.’
‘We are planning to make this sort of tea party frivolity a feature of the summer months ahead!’
The launch will be on Thursday 29 May between 2pm and 5pm.
