New teapot from the hand-made novelty teapot manufacturer evokes nostalgia

‘Adventures always come to the adventurous, there’s no doubt about that!’ Enid Blyton Quote / The Famous Five

The artisan teapot pottery Carters of Suffolk – based at Stonham Barns Park – has announced the introduction of a new hand-made, novelty teapot to celebrate the literary excellence of much-loved children’s author Enid Blyton who began her career as a teacher before starting to publish poetry in the early 1920s.

The new teapot follows on from a similar design launched to mark the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen which attracted volume sales from the UK, Europe and the USA.

Enid Blyton (1897–1968) was one of the most popular children’s authors of the 20th century. Her books have sold over 600 million copies and been translated into 90 languages.  She is best known for titles including Noddy, The Famous Five, Secret Seven, Malory Towers and The Faraway Tree.  Her work covered a wide range of genres including fantasy, mystery, education and Christian stories.

Seckford Hall in Woodbridge, Suffolk, was an inspiration to Enid Blyton with its haunted room, secret passageway and generous gardens.  After finishing school in 1915, she moved out of her family home after her parents separated to live with her friend Mary Attenborough, before going on to stay with George and Emily Hunt at Seckford Hall.

She believed in offering moral guidance to children and followed charitable causes although her work was later critiqued for being outdated. Her life was celebrated in the 2009 film Enid with Helena Bonham Carter in the lead role.

Comments Managing Director Val Baldry of Carters of Suffolk, ‘I have always had a strong connection and love of Enid Blyton having read Noddy and Big Ears from a very young age and then The Famous Five as a young girl looking for the escape a good author can provide, and which has stayed with me all my life.’

‘It was therefore an ideal opportunity to produce a teapot in honour of Enid and I sincerely hope that fellow lovers of the author feel we have done her justice. We have recreated our popular books teapot using very vibrant tones and playful decal decorations that we hope that everyone loves it as much as we do.’

‘Everyone can relate to stories from their childhood and authors like Enid Blyton cut across every generation. We have already had orders in from the US so it’s looking like the teapot will be a global hit.’

‘It’s literary nostalgia with a cup of tea and a slice of cake!’

This latest teapot initiative reinforces Carters of Suffolk’s position as a pivotal British supplier of ceramics both within the UK – and globally.

Carters of Suffolk’s most popular teapot designs include, The Classic British Collection, The Book Collection, The Aga Range, The Baking Range, Figurines, The Animal range and The Classic Car and Locomotive Collections.
