Essex darts player’s confident maiden title win at Suffolk-based event

Stonham Barns Park – one of Suffolk’s premier leisure, retail and holiday destinations – staged a qualifying match for a Super Series darts tournament (9 March) that saw Essex-based Darren O’Neill beat a strong turnout of Suffolk players.

The event was one of 7 matches taking place at venues throughout Suffolk – presented by Evolution Darts in association with Target – leading to a finals day which will also be staged at Stonham Barns Park later in the year (7 December).

Darren confidently predicted he would win the event as he entered community venue, The Barn at Stonham Aspal, and the Essex superstar was true to his words beating a who’s who of the Suffolk darts scene to reach his first final of the year.

Wins over Super Series champion Jason Elvin, Josh Church and Ian Plumb set up a tough semi- final with the on-form Paul Woods. Making his Super Series debut, Paul Woods pushed Darren all the way in a close 4-3.

Waiting for Darren in the final was Norfolk’s Jack Main who himself came through a tough half, beating event 1 winner Nathan Potter in the first round before wins over Ollie Howard, Neil Davey and James Wilkinson to reach his first final. The final as expected was a close fought battle going all the way to a final leg decider, Darren hitting the big numbers early in the leg never gave up his advantage and he went on to take his maiden title 5-4.

The event – with a £7000 prize fund – saw competitors coming from all over the UK.
