Bob Brolly Brings on the Birthday Musical Magic!

Ruby Goldsmith gets to sing along with ‘Wagon Wheel’ with her sister Daisy

Ruby Goldsmith, from Crowborough, East Sussex, loves country music and she saw her idol Bob Brolly at Stonham Barns Park in Suffolk in the summer at the Barn Fest Country and Irish Music festival. The country music legend was performing ‘Wagon Wheel’ which is Ruby’s favourite country song. Ruby, a granddaughter of Stonham Barns Park Owner Alan Forward, was invited on stage with Bob Brolly and was passed the microphone to sing along with Bob which is where the magic all started.

After returning home from the weekend festival, Ruby asked if she could go and see her idol for her birthday and it just so happened that Bob was playing at the British Sugar, Sports and Social Club in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, on 24 October, the same day as Ruby’s 8th birthday.

Her grandfather Alan managed to get her family entry into the concert for this special day and they all attended ready to listen to Bob Brolly and his co-star Brian Mann perform. Alan who is good friends with Bob and Brian had arranged for a special birthday cake decorated with balloons to be presented to Ruby and they and the audience all sang happy birthday to Ruby during their performance.

It was also arranged that Ruby would sing on stage with Bob her favourite song, ‘Wagon Wheel’. Bob requested that Ruby joined him with her 2 sisters, Olivia and Daisy. Daisy (6) joined Ruby (8) joined the country stars on stage while Olivia (9) cheered them on from the crowd. The girls’ father, Ash Goldsmith, also joined them on stage to show support and calm any nerves! They performed the song alongside Bob, taking turns singing.

After Ruby and Daisy finished singing, cake was eaten and lots of dancing took place. Although it was a seated concert, Bob, Brian and the team there had made a small dance floor area for the girls and their family to dance on.

Bob continued his performance, singing many country classics. Earlier in the evening Brian Mann had also performed another family favourite ‘The Gambler’.

Ash Goldsmith has said how proud he and Mum Emma were to watch them perform on stage at such a young age.  ‘As parents, we were obviously in awe of their confidence to sing in front of a crowd and so pleased to see them having so much fun on stage.’

‘As for Ruby, it really was a dream come true.  It was one birthday she will never forget!’

Before the evening came to an end, Bob and Brian called Ruby and Daisy back on stage to sing ‘Wagon Wheel’ in a duet with them before ending with everybody singing Happy Birthday to Ruby one last time.’
